Underarm Sweating

Most people think of deodorants or antiperspirants when it comes to underarm sweating. But if you suffer from a condition called axillary hyperhidrosis, then "the obvious" won't be enough for you. You need: "the special". You need something that really helps you to get rid of that nasty sweat from your armpits.

Please excuse the blunt language I use - but I know how embarrassing it can be when you have huge sweat stains under your arms, and distribute a hard-to-ignore odor, even after having taking a shower just two hours ago. A couple of times friends actually talked to me about this. I wasn't upset with them, because they did bring it up in a respectful manner, and I understand that they said it because they care about me - but it was still nonetheless embarrassing.

So I went out to try and find a solution for my disturbing problem. And what I learned was that when you are desperate, there are a whole lot of people who will be glad to promise you all you want just to get their money - even if they can't deliver on their promises.

Also, in this article I am NOT going to talk about coping strategies. Yes, I did try the "wear another shirt under your clothing method", so that the sweat gets absorbed by the undershirt, and not the top layer of clothing - but I'd rather call that a quick-fix, than a solution. Here, I want to talk about ways that help you to really eliminate underarm sweating from your life so that you don't need to do all these things anymore. Because it's a pain in the behind when you have to carry extra-shirts around, or wash yourself three times as often as other people (and still sweat like a pig)...

Also, I want to talk about antiperspirants here. They can work well if you don't really suffer from severe axillary hyperhidrosis, but only a mild or medium case. The aluminum salt solution that is contained in these antiperspirants is usually enough to block the sweat gland ducts of your skin when you have light or mild underarm sweating.

If you are overweight, that is one thing you should look at too. There are ways to fight underarm sweating when you are overweight too, but quiet frankly, I think you will get the best results when you loose some of those extra pounds. There is a direct correlation between being overweight and excessive sweating, and it's a well-known fact that heavy people sweat more.

If you also suffer from underarm odor, certain changes in your diet can help to reduce the bad smells. Interestingly, emotional factors also play a huge role in how your sweat smells. If you experience a lot of stress and/or anxiety during the course of the day, your sweat will smell very different than when you sweat because you did a workout. Eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables, and you will notice that your body odor becomes less pungent. Also, make sure to drink more water - this helps your body to get rid of toxins better, and thus your skin has to do less of the "dirty work". Spicy foods (specially curries and Indian dishes) are also known to cause bad body odors.
